Hello! My name is Emily Settles and I am honored to be the elementary principal at WACO Elementary School.

A bit about me - I was born and raised in Columbus Junction. I was a Wildcat until I graduated High School and moved on to be a UNI Panther. I earned my BA in Elementary Education while I was in Cedar Falls. I also minored in literacy and have a reading endorsement. After completing my undergrad, I discovered that you truly should "never say never," as I found myself back in Columbus Junction. I taught 2nd and 5th grades while at Roundy Elementary, and simultaneously worked on and completed my MA in Education Leadership through Western Illinois. In 2013-2014 I stepped into the administrative world as the 7-12 Dean of Students at Columbus. That position was unfortunately cut. I decided I wanted to continue to pursue my administrative career, which landed me in Fort Madison. While there I served as an assistant principal at the middle school for one year, followed by a year as the assistant principal at the high school, and finally 2 years as the principal at Richardson Elementary.

While in Fort Madison I met my husband, Jon, and we were married last fall. We have two sons and a dog that keep us busy! I am also a big Hawk fan and love the outdoors.

I am thrilled to be a Warrior and look forward to working with the students, staff, families and community here at WACO!
