FREE AND REDUCED MEAL INFORMATION
- Applications will be available online as well as in limited quantities in each building office. You can find the link to the application and instructions below.
- Families will be notified of status through email when possible, otherwise via US mail to addresses listed in PowerSchool.
- Remember -- YOU MUST FILL OUT AN APPLICATION EACH YEAR. Students start the year with the status (free, reduced or paid) from the previous year. This only lasts for 30 days and then, in the absence of a current year application, students will return to FULL-PRICED STATUS. Any meal purchased 10/09/2020 or after will default to full price until an application is on file in Central Office. Each family is responsible for all debt incurred if they fail to fill out an application. The status will be effective once the application has been processed, which can be up to 10 days as allowed by the Iowa Department of Education.
- Parents/Guardians may need to complete a meal application listing all family members to apply for benefits. If any family member receives food assistance or FIP, your students may already be approved for free meals. Watch for a letter from WACO Community Schools in late July notifying you that your student(s) have already been approved based on your participation in these federal/state assistance programs. If you receive this notification letter, no further action is required. You may consider signing the optional waiver for additional school fees to be considered waived for the current school year.
- You may complete an application based on Household income (gross amount = before withholdings) at any time during the school year as financial situations change.
