Hello WACO and Highland Communities! 👋
My name is Spencer Lueders, and I’m thrilled to introduce myself as the next shared Superintendent for Highland Community School District and WACO Community School District! My wife, Bri, and I, along with our five children—Asaiah (6), Elijah (6), Nelson (4), Penelope (2), and our youngest, Winslet (6 months)—are so excited to become part of your communities.
For the past three years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as the 4-6 Principal at Central DeWitt Intermediate. Before that, I was the Principal of Cardinal Elementary (PK-2) in the Maquoketa Community School District and previously worked as an Instructional Coach in the Pleasant Valley Community School District. Throughout my career, I have been committed to fostering meaningful relationships, collaboratively shaping a shared vision with stakeholders, and strategically building upon existing strengths to drive improved student outcomes. I can’t wait to learn more about all the incredible things happening in both districts and collaborate with you to continue that success.
My family looks forward to relocating to the area after the school year and getting to know the families and community members of both WACO and Highland. It’s truly an honor to step into this role, and I’m eager to connect with you all soon. Go Huskies & Go Warriors!

Mark your calendars for WACO Family Night! On March 24, join author, parent, educator, and WACO graduate Jan Hochstetler as she explores the impact of smartphones and social media on youth mental health.
